Legacy PBX Replacement
Replace your Mitel phone system before support ends
Mitel retires a phone system in three steps: end of sale, then end of life, then end of support. Security patches commonly stop at end of life. The system itself keeps running, often for years, with no patches and fewer spare parts. When it fails, it fails without warning. BluIP replaces it before that happens.

How it works
What stays in your building and what goes
A private branch exchange (PBX) is the cabinet in your building that switches calls and hands outside calls to a carrier. A cloud replacement moves that switching to BluIP’s platform and carries voice over your internet connection. Your wiring stays in place and the cabinet is removed.
Desk phones, analog phones and mobile phones all connect to BluIP’s cloud. BluIP is a licensed phone carrier, and our engineers help at any hour, from setting up a new employee to changing how calls are routed.

Benefits
What your business gains from the move
No more end-of-life risk
After end of sale, patches come only when the manufacturer decides to release them. Patching commonly stops at end of life, which is typically before the manufacturer stops supporting the system entirely. Replacement hardware then moves to the secondary market with no warranty. A planned replacement happens on a date you choose. An unplanned one happens when a part fails.
How a manufacturer retires a phone system
- End of saleNo longer sold; patches at the manufacturer's discretion
- End of lifePatching commonly stops
- End of supportThe manufacturer stops supporting it
A planned PBX replacement
On a date you choose, with the old system running until testing passes.
One invoice for phone service
Phone lines, long distance, maintenance contracts and per-site bills move to a single monthly invoice.
Change features without a service call
Auto attendants, call routing, presence and voicemail are set up in a web browser. A routing change no longer needs a technician on site.
Your team calls, meets and chats from the same system
Calling, video meetings and messaging run on one cloud platform, so office and remote staff share one company directory.
Desk extensions on mobile phones
Mobile apps and BluIP Extend, which uses eSIM, put each person’s desk line on their mobile phone. Extend works through the phone’s own dialer, so no app is required.
Your options
Pick a replacement that fits your sites and tools
The right option depends on how many sites you run and which tools your staff already use every day.
Cloud PBX for businesses with multiple locations
Our Cloud PBX replaces the old phone system, and every location is managed and reported on from the same web portal.
Best for:Companies running two or more sites on separate PBX systems.
Hotel phone systems
Our hotel phone system integrates with property management systems (PMS) and other hospitality platforms from leading vendors such as Oracle. BluIP is Marriott-approved and pre-certified with Oracle OPERA.
Best for:Hotels that need calls linked to the guest's room, bill and service requests.
Cloud Calling for Microsoft Teams
If your business already runs Microsoft Teams, BluIP’s Cloud Calling for Microsoft Teams connects regular phone calls to Teams through Operator Connect or Direct Routing as a Service.
Best for:Organizations that already use Teams every day.
Cloud contact center
Queues, recording and dashboards move to a cloud contact center in the same project as the phones.
Best for:Reservations, patient access and support call centers.
Your two choices
A cloud system or new hardware?
The choice comes down to how many years you plan to keep the system and how much you want to spend on equipment up front.
Swipe sideways to see every column
An on-premises PBX still makes sense at a site with no reliable internet and no way to get it. Everywhere else, the cloud recovers faster. The switching runs off site, so an equipment or power failure in your building does not take your phone service down with it.
Warning signs
Do any of these describe your phone system?
If any of these sound like your system, it is time to plan the replacement.
Sign
Your vendor sent an end-of-life notice
Mitel has announced end of sale, end of life or end of support for the products below. The stages run in that order: end of sale, then end of life, then end of support. Your Mitel partner may raise it before the letter arrives.
Sign
Parts are getting hard to find
Your PBX still runs, but spare cards now come from resellers with no warranty. One failed card can mean an outage that lasts days.
Sign
You cannot change a call flow without a site visit
Call flows collect exceptions over the years. When a simple routing change needs a technician on site, the system costs more than its maintenance contract shows.
Sign
Your Avaya replacement was already put off once
Avaya replacements are easy to postpone because nothing looks broken. Each delay means more time on a system with fewer spare parts and fewer certified technicians.
Sign
Your sites run separate systems
When each building has its own PBX cabinet, reports and call transfers stop at the building. One cloud system covers every site.

When a PBX replacement can wait
If your contract has eighteen months left and the platform is still fully supported, wait. Use the time to document call flows and measure the internet at each site. Replacing under contract rarely lowers costs enough to justify the early termination.

- 1Map how your calls flow todayWe document what your system actually does, including the undocumented exceptions.
- 2Check the internet at each siteWe measure the internet connection and circuits at each site before sizing anything.
- 3Build the setup for your sign-offWe build the call flows, auto attendants and routing. You sign off.
- 4Move your phone numbersYour existing phone numbers move, including main lines and direct dials.
- 5Run both systems while we testThe new system runs beside the old one until testing passes.

Frequently asked questions
Questions about replacing your phone system
Contact us for pricing. We share pricing after a short discovery call. With Cloud PBX, there is no large upfront purchase. Your existing wiring can be reused, and your phone lines, long-distance charges and maintenance contracts move to one bill.
Analog phones and standard SIP IP phones can usually be reused. Only proprietary digital and IP phones that work with their original system need to be replaced. We also support fax machines, elevator lines and other analog devices. We work with you through the sales and onboarding process, so you know the exact number of handsets you need.
An on-premises PBX switches calls on hardware inside your building. A cloud platform does that switching off site and delivers voice over your internet connection.
The practical difference is what happens when something fails. A cabinet is a single point of failure with parts you have to stock. A cloud platform has backup routes and failover, and software updates are applied centrally with no maintenance window. BluIP's platform holds 99.999% uptime.
Days if you take new numbers. A few weeks if you keep your numbers, because porting sets the pace.
Porting is the process of moving your numbers from your old phone company to BluIP, and the two companies handle it between them. The old system keeps carrying calls the whole time, so the wait does not affect your operation. The switch itself happens after hours.
There is no replacement cycle. The platform updates continuously, so the system does not reach an end-of-life date the way hardware does.
Handsets are the only physical part that wears out, and you replace them as needed. Security patches and new features arrive without a project. You stop budgeting for a full system replacement every decade and pay one monthly invoice.
Yes. Number porting moves every published number, including main lines, direct dials and toll-free numbers.
Porting runs during the parallel phase, before any calls move. Nothing printed on your signage, invoices or business cards changes. The carriers set the porting date, which usually takes a few weeks, so we start it early in the project.
Compatible analog phones stay in service. Fax machines, elevator phones, courtesy lines and alarm circuits are converted to BluIP services and keep running on the wiring already in the building.
Every older device is listed during discovery, because these lines are often the ones nobody remembers until they go quiet. Analog phones that still serve a purpose stay where they are, connected to gateways that carry their calls to BluIP's cloud. BluIP sizes the gateways to what the audit finds.
After Mitel end of life, security patches stop and parts get scarce. If you wait, the replacement may have to happen during an outage. If you plan it, it happens on a date you choose.
A working cabinet gives no warning. Over time, certified technicians move on, firmware fixes stop and spare cards get harder to find. Moving while the old system is healthy lets you test both side by side and switch on your schedule.
No. The old system stays in service while the new platform is set up, and traffic moves only after testing passes.
Calls stay on the old system until every call flow, auto attendant and transfer has been tested on the new one. Then the switch happens after hours, so guests and callers do not notice it.
Usually not, but we measure first. The assessment covers each site's internet connection, existing circuits and spare capacity.
Voice needs a steady connection more than a fast one. Where a site falls short, we add capacity as part of the project. BluIP can supply the internet circuit and the phone platform together, and the same support team answers for both.
Yes. BluIP's Cloud Calling for Microsoft Teams is one calling plan, deployed through Operator Connect or Direct Routing as a Service.
With Operator Connect, you select BluIP in the Teams admin center, and BluIP accepts and connects your account. With Direct Routing as a Service, BluIP hosts and runs the session border controllers in the cloud, so you buy and configure no equipment. It suits businesses that need Teams users and users on other phone systems under one dial plan, and calls can be re-routed to other locations if Teams is unavailable. Both keep the Teams tools your staff already use, so users do not go through a second migration.
Agents, queues and recording move to a cloud contact center as part of the same project.
Moving them separately is risky, because the routing between the phone system and the agent screen is the part that tends to break. Reservations, patient access and support teams move with the rest of the business. Smart routing, live dashboards and customer details on every call come with the platform.
